Captain Undyne is a character making her debut appearance in the game Undertale. Her first appearance is in the Waterfall.

Undyne is the captain of the royal guard for the Underground. She is a try-hard tomboy who seems misanthropic at first, which makes her an anti-hero, though she eventually shakes it off when bested at the Waterfall/Hotlands border. Her biggest fan is a lizard-like creature called the Monster Kid, who wishes to emulate what Undyne does.

Her name is a pun on the term "Undying", which means "persistent". This alludes to her transformation into her Undead form, Undyne the Undying.

Appearance

Captain Undyne resembles a fish/human cross, bearing fish fins for ears, blue skin, red hair (which is usually kept in a ponytail), yellow eyes (She hides one behind an eyepatch.), and sharp teeth. She is first seen wearing a set of knight armour. Her casual outfit is a black tank top, blue jean trousers, and brown shoes. Her battle sprites make her skin, jeans, eyes, hair, and shoes white, while her tank top is still black, but now, her armour is black, too.

Undyne retains her armour for the most part when she becomes the wight-like Undying, but in that form, she loses her eyepatch, and her left eye fires harmless laser beams. A heart now appears on her chest. Just like with her normal form, her armour is black, but the heart and her skin are white.

Personality

Undyne seems to be more determined than her fellow monsters are, such that she becomes undead in Genocide runs, transforming into a wight-like form called the Undying. She is at first determined to get humans, but abandons this after Frisk saves her life at the Waterfall/Hotlands border.
