Bosconian is a multi-directional shooter created by Namco. It was released in arcades in November 1981. For Nintendo system ports, it only came out on Namco Museum Megamix and the Wii Virtual Console Arcade version, which the latter was only ported in Japan. It runs on Galaga hardware and has the same video system as Rally-X. It was one of the first Namco titles to have a continuing feature. It was also ported on to the GameCube in Namco Museum 50th Anniversary.

Gameplay[]

You control a ship similar to the one in Galaga, only with a few upgrades. There, you can move in 8 directions and have a fire button. To play, you must go around shooting and destroying enemy bases, either by shooting its core or shooting all six parts. The field is in space, with the field being a rectangle. Spy ships are sent out to check if the coast is clear, and the player must shoot it, or else a RED ALERT! will appear, sending enemies really fast to the ship, or the enemies do that if the players waste time in a level. If first played, you get a high score of 20,000 points. The differences between the old version and the new one are:

  • Maps are changed and different in both versions.
  • The new version allows the player to shoot without stopping while pressing the fire button unless they release the button. The old version had to wait a moment to shoot again.
  • In the 50th Anniversary, Pac-Man's Arcade Party, and a new revision of the game, after completing around without dying, you get bonus points.
  • In the old version, it stops at level 256, while the new one does not.

Characters[]

  • Star Fighter, the fighter you control while shooting enemies.
  • I-Type Enemies, that are enemies that try to get you and come out in a formation attack, with orange ones as the boss and pink ones as followers.
  • P-Types Enemies, that do not try to get you and sometimes rams you in the back of the Star Fighter.
  • E-Type Enemies, that are the fastest and shot from core enemy bases.
  • Spy Ships, which are sent out to see if it's the right time to attack.
  • Asteroids, which are non-moving objects and debris.
  • Cosmo-Mines, which explode after shot, but can destroy the ship.
  • Enemy Bases, which are needed to be destroyed to finish the stage.
