Boo Tag is a 4-player and duel minigame in Mario Party DS. In typical Mario Party fashion, this is a frenzied game of hide-and-seek in the open within a haunted treasure chest, where the characters try to run away from Boos.

Setting[]

The pint-sized characters roam around inside a treasure chest filled to the brim with a multitude of coins, jewelleries and golden bars - it is revealed though that this chest is located in a haunted mansion. The background which shows this resembles the notorious Ghost House levels of the classic Mario Bros. games.

Gameplay[]

The aim of the game is to run away from the Boos, and be possessed by them for the least amount of time - each character has a time marker from zero which goes up for however long they're caught by a Boo. Of course, use the control pad to move around the space.

At the start of the game, one Boo will drop into the chest and pick one unlucky character to start with - once caught, the character is held frozen at the spot for a few seconds. After recovering the possessed character will have to tag any of the other players to transfer the Boo onto them instead.

As the time limit ticks down to the last ten seconds, a second Boo floating from the upper screen will join into the scene and target a second player, doubling the chaos and difficulty.

Trivia[]

  • The Boo at the start has been seemingly programmed to always strike the second player at the upper-left corner, leading to somewhat unfair bias against that player. This is not always the case, though.
  • There is a very similar minigame simply called Get Away from Boo! that features in the London Party mode of the Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games on the Wii . It is a much more simplified affair though, with slightly different gameplay.
