Bob-omb, or Bobby as referred to by Olivia, is an ally to Mario in Paper Mario: The Origami King. He is an amnesiac Bob-omb who joins Mario and Olivia's quest while attempting to recall his memories.
Bob-omb uses Bomb Bump in battle, ramming into the nearest enemy, dealing 20 damage. However, he may trip and deal no damage instead. Unlike most other Bob-ombs, Bob-omb does not have a fuse.
Paper Mario: The Origami King[]
Prior to the game, Bobby and several of his fellow Bob-ombs booked passage on the luxury cruise ship Princess Peach. Bobby carried with him the fuse of a fallen friend, locked in a safe. The ship was attacked by a Paper Macho Gooper Blooper sent by King Olly, and Bobby’s fellows all sacrificed themselves trying to stop it. Bobby was then struck by the beast, losing his fuse and his memory as well as ending up back on land.
Following this, Bobby attempts to regain his memories by wandering through the land. He encounters Olivia and Mario as they board a tram to Autumn Mountain and joins their party. As they travel through the Autumn Mountain, Olivia calls Bob-omb various nicknames before settling on Bobby. Bobby gets separated from the party several times, and also attempts to befriend a folded Spiny and a Paper Macho Goomba, not realizing that they are enemies. After Mario defeats Rubber Band and frees Shogun Studio's Toads, they light off fireworks in celebration. Bobby, hearing the fireworks, suddenly remembers what happened before he washed up at Toad Town.
As the party makes their way to Breezy Tunnel, they are suddenly ambushed by Olly, who drops a giant boulder on Olivia. Bobby tells Mario to go to the Princess Peach cruise ship by boat to retrieve a safe. After arriving, they attempt to get the safe but it is stolen by the Cooper Blooper. Mario follows it to the front of the ship and defeats it, with Bobby retrieving his safe back. After this, Mario Bobby head back to the boulder, where Bobby reveals his backstory and equipts his friend's fuse. Although Mario attempts to stop him, Bobby detonates himself, blowing up the boulder and saving Olivia.
Olivia, disheartened by Bobby's death, runs into the tunnel and sits on a log, questioning her ability to continue the quest. Shortly after, Bobby's ghost appears in the mine from the remnants of the boulder, having been dragged in by the mine's Monty Moles. He suggests Mario use laughter to cheer up Olivia, hinting to the player to use the Goomba Mask obtained earlier. He does not appear for the rest of the game.
Super Mario-kun[]
Bobby appears in Issue 57 of Super Mario-kun, reprising a similar role as he does in the game. Unlike the game, Bobby does not sacrifice himself. Instead, after obtaining his fuse he destroys the boulder by yelling extremely loudly. After the boulder is destroyed, he is forced to leave the party to have his throat checked at the hospital.
Trivia[]
- When Bobby describes his amnesia, he refers to it as "Thinky Thinky Panic", a reference to Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic, the first game Bob-ombs appeared in.
