Blades of Steel is a game for the Game Boy released in 1991. In Japan, it was released under the name Konamic Ice Hockey. It was the first actual ice hockey game released for a Nintendo handheld gaming system in North America.
The game is very similar to its NES counterpart. It's a single- and multi-player game with three levels of difficulty: Junior, College and Pro. Three different game modes can be chosen. The "Practice" option lets the player practice shootouts and fighting. An "Exhibition" game is just one game. The "Tournament" option is a play-off style single-elimination tournament.
Fighting was Blades of Steel's most popular feature. Bumping into the same player multiple times will cause the two to fight. Punches would be thrown until one player fell.
As in the real-world sport of hockey, the object is to score more goals than the opposing team to win the game.
