Birds are recurring enemies in the Mother series, while a few instead assist the player. Normally, these birds are not different from real birds, and they present no alteration to their behaviour either.
Crows appear in Podunk and in some areas surrounding it. In the original Japanese version, they were holding a cigarette, but this was edited for the unreleased American version and Mother 1+2.

Spiteful Crows, from EarthBound, are not so different from Mother's Crows, except their size was reduced. They, too, are notable for being able to steal a character's items. In none of the first two games where crows appear, they have a more powerful version, unlike other enemies.
Eagles are found around Merrysville, and are among the standard enemies the characters usually find in the overworld.

Balding Eagles appear in Mother 3, in Oriander Canyon, near Drago Plateau. They can rest their feathers and heal themselves.
Blue Balding Eagles are the more powerful version of Balding Eagles. They are found in the Argilla Cliffs, near the relatively near to the other type of eagles.

Mad Ducks are weak enemies found at first in the Dusty Dunes Desert's Gold Mine. Most of the time, they are not too dangerous for the characters, but they have the ability to steal PP, and even prevent characters from using PSI during the battle.
While most birds are enemies, Mother 3 presents minor bird characters who do tasks for the player. Pidgeons, for example, are the primary form of transporting letters in Tazmily Village before technology arrived. This is especially important in Chapter 1 where Hinawa sends a letter to Flint. In addition, random sparrows may appear in the game willing to suggest things to any character, referred to as "sparrow advice". Other types of birds appear on the beach and other areas and often fly away if a character gets to close by running. One of these birds is needed in Chapter 7, as many Mr. Saturn are preparing a flying vehicle so that the characters escape from Saturn Valley. The vehicle consists of a cage with many birds carrying it from the inside.
