The Biologic Space Labs (B.S.L. for short) Research Station is a research station featured in Metroid Fusion orbiting SR388 made to research life-forms from various planets, but is overrun by X. Some of the creatures kept on the station are ones that Samus previously fought on the BOTTLE SHIP.

Layout[]

Like the BOTTLE SHIP before it, the B.S.L. station contains numerous environments to study creatures that thrive in those types of environments.

  • Main Deck: The hub of the B.S.L. station, the Main Deck is where Samus starts her mission. Places of interest include the Docking Bays, Quarantine Bay, Operations Deck (where Samus faces the SA-X before entering the Operations Room to set the station on an intercept course with SR388), Habitation Deck (where Samus reunites with the Etecoons and Dachora from Super Metroid), Sub-Zero Containment (where the husk of Ridley's clone is kept), Central Reactor Core, and Reactor Silo.
  • Sector 1 (SRX): A replica of SR388, designed to study Metroids and other creatures native to the planet in their natural habitat. It also contains a Tourian-like environment where Samus faces an X-infected clone of Ridley.
  • Sector 2 (TRO): A tropical jungle environment based on the jungle sections of Brinstar. It is here that Samus first finds out about the SA-X and how dangerous it is.
  • Sector 3 (PYR): A high-temperature zone, used for researching life-forms that live in hot environments, like deserts and volcanoes. The only places of interest here are the Main Boiler and Main Boiler Control Room (which Samus visits later on to stop the station from overheating).
  • Sector 4 (AQA): An aquatic area for studying water-dwelling creatures.
  • Sector 5 (ARC): A sub-zero environment made for researching creatures that live in cold places. Samus faces an X-infected Nightmare in the east side of the sector.
  • Sector 6 (NOC): A very dark cave-like area created to study nocturnal creatures. It also contains the entrance to the Restricted Zone, and by extension, the Restricted Laboratory, where the Galactic Federation is working on a top-secret Metroid breeding program.

History[]

After Samus gets infected by an X parasite on SR388, she is brought to Galactic Federation headquarters, where large portions of her Power Suit are surgically removed and brought to the Quarantine Bay on the B.S.L. station. However, the X-infected pieces and equipment of her suit combined to produce the SA-X, which escapes using a Power Bomb, releasing all the X the scientists unknowingly brought to the station, resulting in every creature on board (excluding the Etecoons and Dachora) getting infected.

Provided with a new ship, Samus is then sent to the station to investigate the explosion, eventually finding out what has happened to the creatures kept on the station, and resolves to eradicate the X. Exploring the station, she battles many powerful X-infected monstrosities and stumbles upon the Restricted Laboratory where the Galactic Federation was secretly breeding Metroids. One of the SA-X manages to lock down the lab, causing it to self-destruct.

Eventually, Samus learns that the Galactic Federation intends to capture the X and SA-X for military purposes, much to her outrage, as she has seen just how dangerous the X truly are. Her ship's computer locks her in a Navigation Room, with orders to keep her confined until the Federation gets to the station. When Samus calls the computer "Adam" as a tribute to her late commanding officer in desperation, it reveals it truly is Adam Malkovich and comes up with a plan to eliminate all the X on the station and on SR388 by crashing the former into the latter using the station's propulsion system. Samus makes her way to the Operations Deck, where she faces an SA-X, sets the station on its crash course, then races to the Docking Bays where she battles an Omega Metroid that somehow escaped from the Restricted Laboratory, and escapes from the station just before it impacts SR388, destroying both, along with the entire X species.
