A berry is a type of item in the Pokémon series, first introduced in Pokémon Gold and Silver during the 2nd Generation. They are fruit and sometimes nuts, native to the Pokémon World that carries a variety of medicinal and healing effects for Pokémon that consume them. There are several dozen shapes and forms of berries, each with their own unique effect which can vary from healing 10 HP as an Oran Berry, to healing all Status Conditions as a Lum Berry, restoring a Pokémon's PP like the Leppa Berry or halving the damage of normally super effective moves once, like the Passho Berry for Water type or Haban Berry for Dragon type.

Berries are generally less potent than Potions, however they can be used by Pokémon mid-battle at their own discretion at the start or end of a turn rather than, needing to use a turn to apply medicine. This is because Pokémon encounter berries in their natural environment and know how to use them, while Potions are man-made, something unusual that Pokémon struggle with using without a human trainer's assistance.

Use[]

Berries can be held by a Pokémon and will be used in battle at a random but usually necessary and convenient time. However, once a berry has been used, it will be discarded and the Pokémon holding it will no longer be holding an item.
