Beedle is a traveling merchant who went across the great sea in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker via a boat in the hopes of selling his items to possible onlookers, including Link.
On his adventure, Link would buy from Beedle on multiple occasions, who would keep count of how many items Link bought, and in time would give out rewards, which were ultimately minor (such as saying "thank you", and refilling his health and weapons).
The character also appeared in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap, where he sold the rare Picolyte on land, rather than in the water as he did in The Wind Waker.
Beedle also appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass with the same objective. He continued the same system as he did in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker in which he kept track of how many items you purchase. Instead of giving you meaningless rewards after hitting a certain mark, he'd give you items such as a Freebie Card. You'd often see Beedle's ship on the map and think he was following you. At certain times, Beedle's Ship "vanishes" and the "Masked Ship" appears. On the Masked Ship, you find Beedle with a mask on, but the items he's selling are more valuable than his usual inventory.
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Beedle owns an airshop in Skyloft during the day, where Link can purchase the Bug Net. In this game, Beedle does not keep up with his original point system.
