Bayonetta 3 is an action hack and slash video game developed by PlatinumGames and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch. It is the sequel to 2014's Bayonetta 2 and is the third game in the Bayonetta series.

Hideki Kamiya, a PlatinumGames designer, explicitly stated that since 2015 that he was in favor of a third game in the series and started to tease its arrival on Nintendo Switch during the first year of the system's life.

Announcement

The game was officially announced by Nintendo of America's now ex-president and COO, Reggie Fils-Aimé, at The Game Awards 2017 with a teaser. This coincided alongside ports of Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. The teaser showcased an action sequence between Bayonetta and an unknown villain, highlighting the colour purple throughout the video. Not much of the game was shown except a short action sequence and the color of this new opus, purple. During a Nintendo Direct broadcast on February 13, 2019; Yoshiaki Koizumi confirmed that the development of the game was going smoothly despite them not being ready to show anything yet. The game was finally shown on September 23rd 2021. Gameplay footage was shown and a 2022 release date was announced.
