Revision as of 04:27, 11 December 2008

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (Batman of the Future: Return of the Joker in Europe) is a Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color scrolling beat 'em up starring none other than Batman. The game's plot is based on the movie of the same name. It is considered a simple game that will last no longer than 20-30 minutes, much to critics' dissatisfaction. Game Informer, an American magazine, even "awarded" the game the worst title of 2000.

Gameplay

The game is simply just a standard side-scrolling beat 'em up with Batman as the playable character. He'll travel through five distinct stages that each take place in Gotham City, including:

  • Gotham Air & Space: The boss of this stage is Bonk.
  • Wayne Enterprise Building: The boss of this stage is Woof.
  • Arkham Asylum: The boss of this stage is Ghoul.
  • Tim Drakes' Laboratory: This stage is incredibly short, plus features no boss.
  • Jolly Jack Candy Factory: The boss of this stage is the Joker.

Cheats in the game will allow players to skip levels and even alter Batman's suit to that of the original.

Reception

The Game Boy Color version faired much better than the Nintendo 64 (and the PlayStation) version, nearly doubled in review scores according to Game Rankings. Nintendo Power gave the Nintendo 64 version a 5.6/10, while Game Revolution gave it an F. Game Informer, as formerly mentioned, claimed that the 64/PS version of the game was the worst title of the year. IGN gave the Game Boy Color version a 6/10.
