Variety of Baby Pokémon, seen in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Baby Pokémon are first-stage evolutionary Pokémon that are small, cannot breed and are pre-evolutions that were introduced in a generation later than the evolutions before them. However, Togepi, Riolu, and Toxel are the only exceptions, as they and their evolutions are Pokémon belonging to the same generation.
Baby Pokémon are mostly discovered through Pokémon eggs. Certain species can be produced when the evolution holds a certain type of incense. Occasionally, certain Baby Pokémon can be found in the wild in later generations.
List of Baby Pokémon[]
| Pokémon | Type(s) | Description |
|---|---|---|
![]() Pichu |
The electric sacs in its cheeks are small. If even a little electricity leaks, it becomes shocked. Playable in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. | |
![]() Cleffa |
In silhouette, they resemble twinkling starlight. When shooting stars rain from the night sky, Cleffa gather in numbers and dance as though they are indeed incarnations of the stars. | |
![]() Igglybuff |
It has a very soft body. If it starts to roll, it will bounce all over and be impossible to stop. | |
![]() Togepi |
Its shell is said to be stuffed with happiness that it shares with kindhearted people. | |
![]() Tyrogue |
It is always bursting with energy. To make itself stronger, it keeps on fighting even if it loses. | |
![]() Smoochum |
It always rocks its head slowly backwards and forwards as if it is trying to kiss someone. | |
![]() Elekid |
It loves violent thunder. The space between its horns flickers bluish white when it is charging energy. | |
![]() Magby |
This Pokémon lives in volcanic areas. With each breath, sparks spurt from its mouth and nose. When Magby is in good health, its flames gain a yellow tint. | |
![]() Azurill |
Azurill spins its tail as if it were a lasso, then hurls it far. The momentum of the throw sends its body flying, too. Using this unique action, one of these Pokémon managed to hurl itself a record 33 feet. | |
![]() Wynaut |
They grow strong by pushing up against one another en masse. They love eating sweet fruit. | |
![]() Budew |
Sensitive to changing temperature, the bud is said to bloom when it feels the sun's warm touch. | |
![]() Chingling |
There is an orb inside its mouth. When it hops, the orb bounces all over and makes a ringing sound. | |
![]() Bonsly |
Its tears elicit sympathy from those who see them, but do not be deceived! This expulsion of body water is merely a physiological mechanism for keeping itself in good health. | |
![]() Mime Jr. |
Known to turn up in bustling marketplaces now and again. It mimics people much as a child would, then watches how they react, eyes sparkling. | |
![]() Happiny |
It carries a round, white rock in its belly pouch. If it gets along well with someone, it will sometimes give that person the rock. | |
![]() Munchlax |
When it finds something that looks like it might be edible, it goes right ahead and swallows it whole. That's why it gets fatter day by day. | |
![]() Riolu |
The aura that emanates from its body intensifies to alert others if it is afraid or sad. | |
![]() Mantyke |
Though ball-like in shape, this Pokémon is a proficient swimmer. I have discovered that if a Mantyke spends much time with schools of Remoraid, it will eventually achieve evolution. | |
![]() Toxel |
It stores poison in an internal poison sac and secretes that poison through its skin. If you touch this Pokémon, a tingling sensation follows. Only Baby Pokémon from the Eighth Pokémon generation. |
Trivia[]
- Out of nineteen baby Pokémon, seven of them evolve into Pokémon belonging to the Fairy Egg Group and seven others evolve into Pokémon that belong to the Human-Like Egg Group.
- May, James, and Brock got their baby Pokémon (Munchlax, Mime Jr., and Bonsly respectively) following the pattern of premiering in a movie and then being captured by one of the main characters. In all cases, the premiered Pokémon is not the same character as the one caught, just the same species. In some cases, this may be a result of the writers deciding a Pokémon works well with the group after they are shown together. Munchlax came after Destiny Deoxys and Mime Jr. and Bonsly came after Lucario and the Mystery of Mew. All of these Pokémon were introduced in the Fourth Pokémon generation.
