An Alpha Metroid is the fourth stage in a Metroid's life cycle, following the basic larval stage. When a Metroid becomes an Alpha Metroid, it sheds the top of its membrane and becomes more insect-like in appearance.
Appearances[]
Metroid II: Return of Samus/Metroid: Samus Returns[]
In the original Metroid II, Samus faces 15 Alpha Metroids during her mission, whereas in the remake, she has to deal with 17 of them. Unlike the larval forms, the Alpha can't be frozen; the only way to harm them is by blasting them with missiles; they go down after five attacks.
Metroid Fusion[]
An Alpha Metroid makes a cameo in the Restricted Laboratory in Metroid Fusion, along with the larval, Gamma, and Zeta Metroids.
