All star mode button located on the bottom of Adventure button.

All-Star Mode is an unlockable mode in Super Smash Bros. Melee and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. The mode is unlocked when all playable characters have been unlocked. The object of the mode is to defeat all the characters in order. In between matches, the player will be sent to the All-Star Rest Area. In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, 2 Olimars are fought last. For the mode in Super Smash Bros. Melee, the characters are fought in a random order, however in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, the characters are fought in an order.

Order of characters fought in Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]

The order of the characters is based on when the character's series debuted. For example, Mr. Game & Watch is the first character fought because the Game & Watch debuted before any of the other character's series.

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS / Wii U[]

Unlike previous Smash games, All Star is unlocked from the start though if the player has yet to unlock all the characters, a lock will be present on the mode's card and it will not count for certain challenges. The order however is like Brawl's except, it is by characters' premiere year and it is organized into 6 groups. The stages are randomly selected based on the characters in the group.

The Rest Area is also changed in that it offers the choice of 3 recovery items in a Fairy, a Heart Container, and a Maxim Tomato . If the player loses, they can't continue.

The Wii U version just has each group go in reverse and displays the losers in the background of the Rest Area
