Algahest is an action game for the Super Famicom, developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Square. The game was released in 1993 in Japan and has never been released in other markets. It is notable for being one of the first home console RPGs that used a password system.

Gameplay

The gameplay resembles other top-down action RPGs, like Secret of Mana or the Soul Blazer. The player earns gains more health and mana (with which to summon the Guardians) as they progress through the games, and can attack in several directions. There are also allied characters that will temporarily lend Alen their help on specific stages.

Story

The player is a young swordsman named Alen who must fight the minions of Alcahest, a demonic being that was sealed away a thousand years ago.
