Acacia is a song by Japanese alternative-rock band BUMP OF CHICKEN. The song was used as a theme for the music video GOTCHA!, which promoted the Pokémon Sword and Shield Expansion Pass. GOTCHA! was released on the Pokémon YouTube channel on September 29, 2020, and September 30 digitally.

Music video[]

The music video primarily focuses on an unnamed boy and girl. The video starts with four boys walking down a railroad. A series of images of the boy growing up with a Pikachu are shown, followed by the girl growing up with an Eevee. The boy and girl are then shown separately walking as every Gym Leader, Trial Captain, and Elite Four member from Generations 1 to 8 appear in the background. The boy and girl are then shown in a city without their respective Pokémon. Silhouettes of Legendary and Mythical Pokémon can be seen on the buildings behind them, before silhouettes of the main antagonists are shown. The boy and girl then find each other's Pokémon, and the playable characters are shown running in the background.

Various moments from the games are then shown. In order:

The video then cuts back to the girl and boy, with silhouettes of Kyogre and Groudon respectively appearing in the background. Then the video shows the Galar gym leaders, followed by Bede and Marnie. Hop is then shown preparing for battle before he is replaced by Leon, who battles against Victor and Gloria. Leon throws his cap in the air, which lands on the boy's head. When he looks up, he sees the girl, and their Pokémon return to their respective owners. As they speak, the various professors and Starter Pokémon are seen on a screen above them. The boy and girl then walk down a path, and after briefly cutting to the four boys on the train tracks, Mew is seen flying in the air.

Trivia[]

  • At the beginning of GOTCHA!, four boys are shown walking along railroad tracks. This is a reference to a film mentioned in Pokémon Red and Blue, which in itself is a reference to the film Stand by Me.
