- July 11th - Satoru Iwata dies of bile duct growth. After his death, Tatsumi Kimishima took over as Nintendo's president.
- September 13 - The Super Mario series celebrates it's 30th anniversary in Japan.
- October 18 - The Nintendo Entertainment System & the Super Mario series celebrate their 30th anniversaries in North America.
- September 16 - Tatsumi Kimishima is declared president of Nintendo. Restructuring of Nintendo's departments, leading to the formation of the Entertainment Planning and Development Division among other changes.
