1942 is a video game released originally in arcades in 1984. It was later released on the Nintendo Entertainment System and the Game Boy Color. It was developed and published by Capcom. The game was later followed by 1943: The Battle of Midway. As the name implies, it takes place during World War II in 1942 (while the sequel takes place during the same war the next year). Despite being made by a Japanese company (Capcom), the game requires you to head to Japan and defeat the entire fleet.

The arcade version has been released on the Virtual Console in Japan on December 21, 2010, the PAL region on January 21, 2011, and in North America on January 24, 2011.
